This Christmas, just like last year, Elos Medtech has donated to Doctors Without Borders, an international, independent medical humanitarian organization dedicated to deliver medical care to those most in need. We think their amazing work deeply resonates with our values and mission to enhance people’s lives. We hope this gesture reflects the spirit of the season—spreading compassion and support to those in need around the globe.
From the MSF website:
We provide medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare. Our teams are made up of tens of thousands of health professionals, logistic and administrative staff – most of them hired locally. Our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of impartiality, independence and neutrality.
On behalf of everyone at Elos Medtech, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year. We look forward to continuing our journey together in 2025!

Simon has worked at Elos Medtech in Skara since 2019. He started as a Quality Engineer, switched to Project Leader and was then promoted to Project and Quality Control Manager in 2024.
Six Years at Skara – From Engineer to Manager
As Project Manager, Simon’s responsibilities include listening to the article requirements and customer’s expectations for the project, and then based on these criteria, planning, organizing and monitoring the project to achieve the set goals. What he especially appreciates is the variety that his work days offer:
“My work involves mainly a lot of planning and involvement of internal and external parties to keep the projects running smoothly. In my role, it is essential to be flexible and solution-oriented. I appreciate meeting and connecting with so many different people. I also feel joy in having engaged, creative and competent employees around me.”
He also has an unofficial role – namely as table tennis champion in the annual “Elos Medtech Santa Claus Cup” which is held in Skara every year.
It was Simon’s manager, Site Leader Jimmy Johansson who acquired the pingpong table when he saw that most employees spent their breaks sitting with their iphones instead of socializing. Now, a pingpong game is a given on any break.
“It’s become an unoffocial meeting point, almost everyone who works here likes to play”, says Simon. “It’s really a lot of fun, and has brought us even closer together.”
Family Atmosphere – It’s In the Walls
That’s not to say that the crew weren’t close knit before. Skara’s famous familiar atmosphere is something extraordinary that has been implemented from the start, and trickles down from the leadership to everyone on the floor. It was Jimmy that recognized the potential in Simon and gave him more and more responsibility. Jimmy says:
“Simon’s competence and hard work is one thing, but what I want to highlight first and foremost is Simon the person. With his curiosity to develop and his inclusive leadership, he is an incredibly important piece of the puzzle in our team building. Even if he humiliates us all in ping pong.”
In addition to being an inclusive and welcoming workplace, there are many activities happening outside of work. Simon sees the management as competent and well-organized, and makes employees feel seen and appreciated.
“The good family atmosphere has remained unchanged since I started. The ongoing growth journey that the Skara site is undergoing involves many changes, both in production and organizationally, which is very exciting to be a part of.”
Why Elos Medtech?
It was Sofia Andersson (Group IT Project Manager) who first described Elos Medtech to Simon and he became interested right away.
“She probably thinks I’m a stalker,” laughs Simon. “We grew up 20 meters apart, and when she moved from Jönköping after finishing her studies, my partner and I moved into her apartment! After finishing my studies, we started at the same workplace in the same position.”
Once he got the chance to see the workplace first hand, he immediately knew that he would be spending many hours there in the coming years.
Advice to Future Employees
“Elos’ company culture is characterized by open communication, respect and inclusion, opportunities for development, work-life balance, strong teamwork, flexibility, and customer focus. I believe these factors are what motivate all employees to reach success both individual and for Elos.”
Simon’s advice to someone considering a career at Elos Medtech is quick and concise:
“Don’t hesitate, just do it. You won’t regret it!”
Simon lives in the smaller community of Filsbäck outside Lidköping with his partner Hanna, their 8-month-old son Elliot and their French bulldog Doris

Christian Brodén first joined Elos Medtech back in 2002. Christian’s journey has seen him move through a wide variety of roles, including both technical and commercial positions, before a promotion in 2023 to Production Manager at our Timmersdala facility!
Career Evolution: From Trainee to Production Manager
For nearly two decades, Christian Brodén has been a key member of the Elos Medtech family. Starting as a trainee at Elos Precision in 2002, Christian’s passion for technical challenges and his unwavering dedication have propelled him through a variety of roles, leading to his current position as Production Manager at the Timmersdala site.
Christian’s journey began at the age of 16, when he joined as a trainee while still attending school. After completing his exams in 2004, he began working full-time in Timmersdala, but his career was far from linear. He has left Elos twice to explore new ventures, yet each time he found his way back, drawn by the sense of belonging and purpose that Elos offers.

In 2021, Christian took on a new challenge as a Technical Account Manager, moving into the field of orthopedics and reporting to colleagues across the globe. This experience expanded his skills in sales and business development, further rounding out his already impressive technical background. His dedication and adaptability led to his promotion in November 2023 to Production Manager, where he now oversees a team of 50 employees.
A Culture of Openness and Support
For Christian, what stands out most about Elos Medtech is the open-minded and supportive culture. “You can say anything, even if it’s wrong, and no one will be mad if you make a mistake. Instead, you learn from it,” he explains. This ethos of continuous learning and improvement is a cornerstone of life at Elos Medtech, where employees are encouraged to be adventurous and push boundaries in their roles.
Christian also highlights the strong sense of collaboration within the company. Whether discussing strategic plans in a meeting or assisting a colleague on the shop floor, Christian values the wide variety in his role and the chance to be involved at all levels. “One moment I could be discussing a 600 million budget, the next I’m helping solve a faulty machine part in the factory,” he says with a smile.
The Essence of Elos Medtech’s Culture
For Christian, Elos is more than just a company – it’s a family. “This is my home,” he says. The opportunities for growth, the sense of belonging, and the drive for innovation are what make Elos Medtech a special place for him. “If you love technical stuff, this is the place to be,” Christian advises.
Advice for Future Team Members
For those considering a career at Elos Medtech, Christian’s advice is simple: “Be hungry. Be curious. Challenge yourself, and if you can’t solve something on your own, don’t hesitate to ask for help.” His words capture the spirit of continuous growth and support that defines Elos Medtech.
Thank you, Christian, for your dedication and for being an integral part of the Elos Medtech family!
In our previous blog, we discussed the key challenges of achieving sustainability in medical device packaging, including the need for sterility, the use of recyclable materials, and the reduction of packaging waste. Today, we’re excited to share how Elos Medtech is actively addressing these challenges through innovative practices and forward-thinking strategies. As we prepare for future regulatory changes, our commitment to sustainability is stronger than ever.
Leveraging Post-Industrial Recycled Materials
One of the initiatives we’ve undertaken is partnering with Medipack, a supplier that uses post-industrial recycled material for our blister packaging, This is virgin material, so traceable and can be used in our industry. This collaboration allows us to reduce waste by reusing materials that would otherwise be discarded, aligning with our commitment to sustainability without compromising the integrity of our packaging.
Preparing for Regulatory Changes with Mono-Material Packaging
Currently, regulations require that all materials from operating rooms be incinerated, preventing the recycling of many medical device packaging materials. However, we are proactively working on developing mono-material packaging solutions that will be fully recyclable as soon as authorities permit. This means that when the regulations shift, Elos Medtech will be ready to offer packaging that meets both safety and environmental standards.
Minimizing Packaging Size to Reduce Environmental Impact
One of the most significant ways we are reducing our environmental footprint is by minimizing the size of our packaging. Smaller packaging not only decreases the amount of material used but also reduces the volume required for transportation, sterilization, and storage. For instance, we have developed ultra-small blister solutions for screws, and we are capable of designing similarly compact blisters for other products. This approach directly cuts down on waste and energy consumption across the supply chain.
Sustainable Material Selection
Sustainability starts with the materials we choose. At Elos Medtech, we only use FSC-labeled cardboard for our boxes, ensuring that the paper products come from responsibly managed forests. Combined with our use of Medipack’s blisters made from post-industrial recycled material, we are committed to offering packaging solutions that are as sustainable as possible. Additionally, we work closely with our clients during the development phase to create packaging concepts that are both effective and environmentally friendly.
Reducing CO2 Emissions in Our Supply Chain
We’re also focusing on reducing CO2 consumption by sourcing all of our packaging materials from European suppliers, most of whom are based in Germany (although we do have several regional suppliers). By keeping our supply chain local, we significantly cut down on transportation-related emissions, further supporting our sustainability goals.
Innovating for Waste Reduction
Looking forward, we are planning to sell our PET waste for recycling, ensuring that even our production byproducts are handled in a sustainable manner. By separating waste by material type, we can ensure that it is recycled to the highest possible standard. This initiative is part of our broader strategy to minimize waste throughout our operations.
Long Shelf Life, Less Waste
Finally, our packaging solutions are designed with a high shelf life—up to seven years. This durability ensures that repacking, which often leads to additional waste and energy use, is rarely necessary. By extending the lifespan of our packaging, we help reduce both environmental impact and costs for our customers.
Conclusion
At Elos Medtech, our commitment to sustainability in medical device packaging is evident in the actions we’re taking today. By leveraging recycled materials, innovating with packaging design, and reducing our carbon footprint, we are leading the way in sustainable practices. As regulations change, we are already prepared to meet the challenges and continue delivering packaging solutions that protect both our products and the planet.

One of Elos’ most recent employees is Börje Johnsson who joined the Life Science business unit in May 2024. For Börje it wasn’t a difficult transitioning, but a welcome return to the injection moulding polymer world which he knows and loves!
Impacting the Vision
Börje [pronounced bɵrːjɛ] hails from Skåne in southern Sweden, and has worked with injection moulding for the automotive industry and medtech applications for over 35 years. Joining Elos Medtech meant taking on the reponsibility as Global Sales & Business Development Manager. For Börje, the best part of the job is:
“Discussing solutions with customers, from a tooling point of view or choice of materials, that’s what’s close to my heart! It feels good to work with health-promoting products.”
What Is Exciting In The Medtech Industry
What especially excites Börje about the business development opportunities in his work is to find new applications and innovations for injection moulded products.
“The life science sector is full of innovation and growth potential. One megatrend is tailored treatments to genetic profiles and patients’ own cells. At Elos Skara, we can contribute to needed diagnostic tools and manufacturing solutions. The pandemic showed the need of resilient supply chains. We can help customers to optimize products, reduce total material costs and improve flexibility in the supply chain!”
Team and Culture at Elos Medtech
In his short time working at Elos Medtech, Börje can see comes several benefits such as faster decision-making, flexibility and adaptability, and cost-effectiveness. It also fosters innovation and creativity. In Skara, Börje claims to have met a down-to-earth unpretentious organization where employees feel good.
“Working at Elos is positive both professionally and personally. It’s meaningful work in an innovative work sector, often with a global impact. In contacts with other colleagues in Elos, I encounter transparency that I believe is necessary.”
Collaboration and Growth
Börje notes that both his and his team’s role greatly contribute to the broader goals of Elos Medtech. Several customer-related questions have been received via Elos colleagues and vice versa – customer contacts in Skara have generated discussions with others in the Elos group.
Future
Börje believes that the key to a joint successful future is customer focus, transparency and openness, and the best use of common assets. His own personal goal?
“Getting to know all our customers in Skara, familiarizing myself with the ongoing upsell opportunities. Also to identify new customers and new opportunities!”
“Elos Medtech Skara is open for current and new customers and everyone in the Elos group wanting to visit us. Welcome to Skara!”
At Elos Medtech, sustainability is integral to our operations. We continually strive to enhance the sustainability of our factories and products, reflecting our commitment to environmental responsibility. Today, we focus on a critical aspect of sustainability in the medical device industry: sterile packaging.
Challenge 1: Sterility
When it comes to medical devices, maintaining sterility throughout their shelf life is paramount. At Elos Medtech, ensuring product sterility remains our top priority. This commitment drives every decision we make regarding packaging materials and design.
Challenge 2: Use of Recycled Materials
One of the challenges we face is the use of recycled materials in packaging. While using recycled materials aligns with sustainability goals, stringent regulatory requirements necessitate knowing the origin of all materials, including packaging components, particularly for sterile barrier systems. Currently, the lack of traceability hinders widespread adoption of recycled materials in medical device packaging.
Challenge 3: Making Packaging Recyclable
Designing recyclable packaging is a clear objective for Elos Medtech. However, practical challenges exist, particularly in healthcare settings where materials used in operating theatres are often considered contaminated post-use. Consequently, most materials are treated as non-recyclable waste. Despite these challenges, we are proactive in preparing our materials for future regulatory changes. By ensuring our packaging materials are recyclable when feasible, we anticipate and facilitate compliance with evolving recycling protocols.
Challenge 4: Reduction in Packaging Waste
Addressing the amount of packaging used is an area where Elos Medtech can make an immediate impact. Through innovative design strategies, such as optimizing blister pack sizes and reducing outer packaging dimensions, we significantly reduce material waste. This not only minimizes environmental impact but also enhances efficiency in transportation and storage, contributing to a lower carbon footprint associated with our products.
In our next blog, we will delve deeper into how Elos Medtech is actively addressing these challenges today. Stay tuned to learn more about our sustainable initiatives and our ongoing commitment to delivering environmentally responsible solutions!
